MOSCOW, August 3 (RIA Novosti) – A group of Malaysian police officers sent to the MH17 crash site in Ukraine has left Kiev by train to reach their final destination, Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama reported Sunday.
Kiev and Kuala Lumpur on Friday signed an agreement on sending Malaysian experts, including police, to Ukraine to help investigate the crash. Police officers are supposed to ensure security of experts working at the scene.
This agreement will allow the Malaysian side, which lost 43 citizens in the accident, to join an international mission investigating the circumstances of the tragedy.
Earlier this week, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman announced that a full multinational team of 101 experts, investigating the cause of the Malaysian Boeing crash in eastern Ukraine had finally reached the crash site.
The team includes 10 experts sent by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), while 53 are from the Netherlands and 38 from Australia.
On Saturday, the experts were forced to suspend their work amid shelling near the crash site.
A total of 298 people died on July 17 when Malaysia Airlines MH17 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in eastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities claim the plane was shot down by independence supporters, while the latter deny the allegations saying they do not have the means to hit a target flying at that height.
