MOSCOW, August 5 (RIA Novosti) – The international "hacktivist" network known as Anonymous continues to wage cyber-attacks on Israel, taking down dozens of major Israeli government websites in the past 24 hours, International Business Times reported.
According to the online news publication, Anonymous "knocked out" Mossad (Israel’s Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations) and IDF portals.
The hackers are currently attacking more than 400 Israeli Government websites, the @AnonymousGlobo Twitter account said Tuesday.
In July, Anonymous claimed that their cyber-attacks were a retaliation against the killing of the 22-year-old Tayeb Abu Shehada and other youth in clashes with Border Police and Israel Defense Force (IDF).
Tayeb Shehada, 22, a Palestinian Fatah supporter, was shot dead July 25 by an Israeli soldier while participating in a demonstration in his village Huwwara wearing a Guy Fawkes mask associated with Anonymous, Digitaljournal reported.
On July 11-17 some of the websites, such as of the Tel Aviv Police Department had already gone offline, while numerous Israeli government homepages were replaced by graphics, slogans and auto-playing audio files made by AnonGhost, International Business Times reported July 18.
The Israeli government has not yet commented on the cyber-attacks.
