MOSCOW, August 7 (RIA Novosti) – The Staffordshire police continue to monitor the London Palestine Action group’s protest against drone engine producer UAV Engines and are investigating the details of the protest, according to inspector Jane Hewett, as cited by The Guardian.
“This appears to be an organized and planned protest and we are investigating the circumstances of how the protesters came to be on the roof,” The Guardian quoted Hewett as saying.
The police have closed the road to the factory and stationed several officers there to maintain order and ensure the safety of the protesters, emergency teams and the wider public. Negotiators are said to be working toward a peaceful resolution to the protest.
On Tuesday, the London Palestine Action members shut the UAV Engines Limited factory gates and chained themselves to the roof, claiming they had food to last a week.
The protestors said that by permitting the factory, owned by Israeli weapons-producer Elbit Systems, to send engines for lethal drones to Israel, the UK authorities were supporting Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip and the killing of Palestinians.
London Palestine Action is an organization in London that regularly voices its concern about the killing of the Palestinian civilian population through protests. The group’s most recent protest against UK arms sales to Israel took place on July 23.
