MOSCOW, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - An ice-class tanker, Sakhalin, with a deadweight of 3,100 tons is to be launched in the Primorsky Territory on Friday, becoming the first in its class to have been built in Russia’s Far East, according to the Nakhodka Shipyard website.

“It is an outstanding event in the history of the Russian shipbuilding. The ships of this class and deadweight have not been constructed in the Far East before,” the company said on its website.

The construction of the tanker was ordered by Russian oil company Rosneft and began in 2012 before moving to Nakhodka Shipyard as the only facility capable of taking on a project of such a large scale.

The ship is designed to transport up to four types of oil products with no flash point limits. The tanker meets all international requirements for oil product transportation and is able to operate in ice conditions.

The tanker is 88.9 meters (291.5 feet) in length, 13.45 meters (44 feet) in beam, and 3,100 tons in deadweight. The ship is able to carry a crew of to 15 people.

The Nakhodka Shipyard currently has another tanker in the works. Earlier this year, the shipyard built a barge that will carry supplies to the remote areas of Chukotka Autonomous Area.
