MOSCOW, August 12 (RIA Novosti) - Hundreds of Palestinian children in the West Bank city of Ramallah staged a march on Tuesday with the help of the Palestinian unity government in a sign of solidarity with those in the Gaza Strip, as the deadly conflict in Israel rages on, The Daily Star Lebanon reports.
"This demonstration carries a message to the United Nations: Palestine's children demand to live like all other children of the world, without war or killing," said protest organizer Maissoun Hega, as quoted by the paper.
The young marchers headed for the United Nations office in Ramallah, calling on international organizations to protect Gaza’s children. Some wore T-shirts with the names of children who were killed in Gaza by recent Israeli strikes.
On July 8, Israel launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip known as Operation Protective Edge aiming to combat Hamas and other rival Palestinian forces. A three-day truce observed by both sides of the conflict began late Sunday and is scheduled to end Wednesday.
Over 1,800 Palestinians, most of them civilians, and 67 Israeli citizens have been killed in the conflict, according to the United Nations.
