MOSCOW, August 13 (RIA Novosti) – Oscar-winning American actor Robin Williams committed suicide by hanging himself with a belt at his home in Tiburon, California, before being discovered on Monday morning by his personal assistant, Marin County sheriff's officials told media Tuesday.
The actor’s personal assistant found Williams seated in his bedroom, slightly suspended off the ground with a belt. Small cuts were also visible on the inside of his left wrist, and a pocket knife was found lying on the floor nearby. Lt. Keith Boyd, assistant chief deputy coroner, said the knife had "dry red material" on the blade, but added that it was still “unknown at the time if the material is blood, or if it is Mr. Williams' blood.”
According to his press representative Mara Buxbaum, Williams had been battling severe depression and drug abuse recently. Last month, he announced he was getting back to a 12-step treatment program he said he needed after having worked for 18 months in a row. He had previously sought medical aid in 2006 after a relapse following 20 years of sobriety. The deceased Academy-Award winning actor was 63.
The U.S. President Barak Obama issued an official statement where he called Robin Williams “one of a kind”, and offered his condolences to the actor’s family and friends.
Robin Williams was a world renowned actor and comic. His most famous movies include “Dead Poets Society” (1989), “The Fisher King" (1991), Disney cartoon “Aladdin" (1992), “Mrs. Doubtfire" (1993), “Jumanji" (1995), “What Dreams May Come" (1998), “Bicentennial Man" (1999), "One Hour Photo" (2002) and the “Night at the Museum" (2006 and 2009) among many others. He was nominated for four Oscar awards, winning Best Support Actor in 1997 for his role as a therapist to a troubled math genius in “Good Will Hunting.”
