MOSCOW, August 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia’s RT television channel has become an Emmy finalist in the News category for the third time, the channel’s press service said in a statement.
“Russian television’s series on the subject of Guantanamo [Bay] prisoners going on a hunger strike against illegal detention and humiliation, is among the finalists,” RT said.
“We are Emmy finalists! This is our television Oscars!” Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of RT and Rossiya Segodnya wrote on her Twitter account.
RT added that this is the third time the television channel has been named among the finalists for the award. In 2012, RT was nominated for the International Emmy Award in the News category for its coverage of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
In 2010, RT was an Emmy award nominee for its coverage of US President Barack Obama’s first visit to Russia in July 2009.
RT is the first Russian TV channel to be nominated for three career Emmy award nominations.
