ZHUKOVSKY (Moscow region), August 14 (RIA Novosti) — Russia’s state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport signed several contracts for a total of $100 million during the Engineering Technologies 2014 forum, the head of the company said Thursday.
“In the first two days of the forum, Rosoboronexport has already signed a number of contacts and contractual agreements totaling $100 million," Anatoly Isaikin told reporters.
The announcement comes amid the United States and the European Union imposing targeted sanctions against Russia’s defense and energy companies.
Earlier this week, Rosoboronexport said Moscow was planning to produce weapons jointly with the United Arab Emirates.
Last week, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Russia has to expand production of military spacecraft and develop an import substitution strategy for the domestic production of spacecraft in order to establish greater technological independence.
The United States and European Union have been imposing sanctions against Russian officials and companies since Crimea’s reunification with Russia in March, accusing Moscow of meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs.
The Third International Forum “Engineering Technologies 2014” is being held on August 13-17 in the town of Zhukovsky, outside Moscow, simultaneously with the “Oboronexpo 2014” arms exhibition, involving about 240 Russian defense firms as well as companies from CIS countries, Germany, India, China, France and Turkey.
