MOSCOW, August 16 (RIA Novosti) - Protests have erupted again overnight in Ferguson, Missouri, reports Reuters. The town had seen a relative calm for several days, only to have a fresh round of looting reignite tensions.
Police fired tear gas attempting to disperse a crowd near a local liquor store, only to find their efforts incite and provoke the crowd, reports Reuters.
The crowd was not engaged this time directly by officers, who instead “stayed at a distance in armored vehicles and in riot gear” according to the AFP. Further reports on FOX KTVI’s twitter page say that police were “told to stand down by the Missouri State Highway Patrol” and not to engage with the looters.
This repeat of violence and looting comes after police released a video recording, police say, shows the victim, Michael Brown, committing an act of robbery.
The latest reports of violence and looting come as protesters around the US join in solidarity with the residents of Ferguson in the aftermath of the shooting.
