MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) – Rescuers have saved 13 more survivors from a tourist boat that sank Saturday off the eastern coast of Indonesian, according to local authorities.
“They were all found together, some in a lifeboat and some floating with their life jackets on around 60 miles off Sape,” a rescuer told France Press agency. He added there were five Malaysians and eight foreign nationals.
The boat carrying 20 foreign tourists, an Indonesian guide and four crew members ran aground late on Saturday, but the incident was reported to local authorities only on Sunday. According to rescuers, the vessel sank on the way from the island of Lombok to Komodo.
Twenty-three people have been saved so far, including five Malaysians and 18 foreigners. The cause of the incident is not clear, although AFP says the boat could have hit a reef.
