WARSAW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) – Polish logistics companies are on the verge of bankruptcy due to Russia's ban on food imports from the European Union and several other countries, the Chairman of National Association of International Carriers and Freight Forwarders Podlasie Waldemar Jaszczur said Monday.
"Our situation after the introduction of Russian embargo is simply dramatic," Jaszczur told journalists.
"The carriers who used to have constant contacts along the Poland-Russia and Europe-Russia line went jobless instantly," he said, adding that no one in the Polish government was interested to hear that.
"Carrier-enlisted loans, leases that they need to be paid," he said.
Jaszczur is now hoping to meet with Polish Minister of Infrastructure and Development Elzbieta Bienkowska to request financial aid from the government. "The carriers are ready to start protesting," he said.
Poland is Europe's leader in terms of freight carriers. Polish transporters not only have the largest car park – for about 150,000 vehicles – but also the most modern one in Europe, Jaszczur said.
