MOSCOW, August 19 (RIA Novosti) - Bitcoin is set to be adopted by several companies this year, most notably Ebay, the New York Times reports.
“EBay Inc. has been quietly working to integrate acceptance of the virtual currency into its Braintree payments subsidiary, part of its PayPal unit” the New York Times writes.
This would represent a major victory for Bitcoin as it seeks to expand its consumer base. While it still faces many regulatory and technological hurdles, this would represent a clear step of progress for the virtual currency.
Braintree is a merchant payment system owned by Ebay. AirBnB, Uber and many other companies use Braintree's services, according to its website.
Bitcoin has also come under harsher scrutiny this month as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau released a report detailing problems associated with it and also started to listen to complaints from consumers about the cryptocurrency.
