KHABAROVSK, August 20 (RIA Novosti) — Air defense units of the Eastern Military District successfully repelled a simulated attack, hitting all aircraft and combat drone targets as part of a snap check of combat readiness, a Russian military spokesman said Wednesday.
"The unit equipped with 9K22 Tunguska (SA-19 Grison) air defense system was alerted, [then it] carried out a 200-kilometer (124-mile) march and performed live firing at targets simulating aircraft and unmanned combat aerial vehicles… All targets were destroyed," Eastern Military District spokesman Col. Alexander Gordeyev said.
The drills were carried out by air defense units stationed on the Sakhalin Island in Russia’s Far East.
Col. Gordeyev noted that the troops also performed tasks to repel a reconnaissance-sabotage group and a ground offensive.
"The results of the exercise show significant progress in combat training of the personnel," Gordeyev added.
