MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - The World Jewish Congress (WJC) is concerned that Christians are being killed in the Middle East and Africa because of their religion without any notice from international organizations, Russian Jewish Congress President Yuri Kanner told RIA Novosti, commenting on a recent article by WJC head Ronald Lauder.
“The President of the WJC has brought up this issue, because the Jews remember what happened during the Second World War – the annihilation of Jews amid the total muteness of the world community. Today, the same is happening with Christians… Nobody in the world is fighting for their rights – and this is what outraged Ronald Lauder,” Kanner told RIA Novosti.
Kanner added that “religions cleansings” of Christians started many years ago, with the connivance of the international community and one billion Christians looking indifferently at their brothers and sisters in faith being killed just for professing a different religion.
“This must be stopped,” stressed Kanner.
Lauder’s article, entitled “Who Will Stand Up for the Christians?” was published by the New York Times on Tuesday. The author urged the world community to join in the efforts to stop a “grotesque wave of terror,” against Christian people from Nigeria to Syria, adding that he wrote the appeal “as a Jewish leader who cares about my Christian brothers and sisters.”
