YEKATERINBURG, August 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russia's consumer rights protection agency Rospotrebnadzor in Sverdlovsk Region found a chemical agent, capable of causing allergies and functional changes in the nervous system, in Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey whiskey.
“The final results of laboratory tests have revealed the presence of benzyl ether of benzoic acid in Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey [liqueur] spirit, which has sensitization properties, causes allergic reactions, could provoke functional changes in central and peripheral nervous system and is widely used as an acaricidal [anti-mite] agent,” the consumer rights watchdog said in a statement Thursday.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor in Sverdlovsk Region ordered the removal of the US-made Jack Daniel’s Tennessee and Jim Beam Bourbon whiskeys from sale starting Friday as they did not meet some of the consumer rights watchdog’s technical requirements. Rospotrebnadzor also filed administrative cases against the stores which were selling the whiskeys without proper labeling.
