MOSCOW, August 22 (RIA Novosti) - The new JetSmarter app, designed by Russian IT expert Sergey Petrossov, 27, makes it possible for travelers to book their own jets to any corner of the world at short notice, Digital Journal reports.
While charter companies actually own the planes, JetSmarter acts as the concierge service, helping tech-savvy users meet their travel needs, which often include escaping the hassles encountered at larger airports, as well as numerous red tape and security-related measures.
With over 3,000 planes in the system, Petrossov claims “you can put in an itinerary anywhere [in the world], and you’re going to get jets pop up,” as reported by the Daily Beast.
So-called “jet-sharing” will be among the options available by the end of 2014, which will allow one to claim a seat on a chartered plane for a reasonable price or book a flight for travel among a small group of people you would like to fly with.
The application is expected to popularize private air travel, making it affordable to “tens of millions” versus the current “hundreds of thousands,” according to Petrossov, as well as to challenge the commercial airline industry.
There are a number of app-based services similar to JetSmarter, notably PrivateFly, which boasts a database of 7,000 jets, according to its website, but operates only in Europe.
