MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - The 71st Venice International Film Festival will open on August 27 on the Lido. It will be held until September 6. 20 films, including “The Postman’s White Nights” by Andrei Konchalovsky, will compete for the highest prize of the biennale, the Golden Lion.
James Franco’s “The Sound and the Fury” is the second film adaptation of the novel by William Faulkner. It will be screened out of competition at the festival.
In the historical drama “The Cut” Fatih Akin, a German film director, tells a story of a man who survived genocide and is looking for his twin daughters.
Lisa Cholodenko's “Olive Kitteridge” stars Frances McDormand and Richard Jenkins. The HBO mini-series is based on a novel by American author Elizabeth Strout, who won a Pulitzer Prize for it.
The Golden Era directed by Ann Hui has been selected as the closing film of the festival.
