MOSCOW, August 26 (RIA Novosti) – Two Russian Journalists of the Crimean Telegraph newspaper, Evgeniya Koroleva and Maxim Vasilenko, working also as a freelancer for Rossiya Segodnya and Agence France-Presse, are safe and sound and will soon be handed over to police, a local human rights activist said.
“According to recent reports, the journalists were detained by the Right Sector. They were checked out for carrying out intelligence activities in Ukraine, but as far as I know they revealed nothing compromising" - Andrei Krisko, a representative of a human rights mission in Crimea, told RIA Novosti Monday.
He added that the representatives of the Right Sector promised to hand over the detained journalists to police which will “decide their fate.”
“Our colleagues have been assured that the guys are safe and sound,” Krisko stressed.
Maxim Vasilenko went missing in the area of the military operation in eastern Ukraine on Sunday together with another journalist of the Crimean Telegraph newspaper, Evgeniya Koroleva.
Later, Koroleva said over the phone that they had been detained by the representatives of the Right Sector. According to an editorial office representative of the Crimean Telegraph newspaper, the two were detained not as regular citizens, but exactly as journalists.
Another Russian journalist - Andrei Stenin, working for Rossiya Segodnya went missing in eastern Ukraine on August 5. His current location still remains unknown.
