MOSCOW, August 31 (RIA Novosti) - The death toll from a landslide in China's southwestern Guizhou Province has risen to 22 while one person is still missing, Xinhua news agency reported Sunday.
On Wednesday, the landslide struck the Yingping village in the city of Fuquan following three days of heavy rain. Half of a 600-meter (2,000-foot) high knoll broke free and "wiped out a majority of the village" at its base, according to Xinhua.
More than 20 people were injured, a total of 77 houses destroyed. Most of the residents were children or elderly, as many working-age villagers had moved to the cities.
