KIEV, September 1 (RIA Novosti) – The Kiev government may “change the format” of its military operation in eastern Ukraine, a spokesman for the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine said Monday.

“The decision to change this format is yet to be made, and I think that decisions on a broader range of issues will follow soon,” spokesman Andriy Lysenko said.

Kiev launched a military operation in the southeastern regions of Ukraine in mid-April, when residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions refused to recognize the newly instated government which came to power in the country following the February 22 coup.

On August 26, multilateral talks were held in Belarusian capital Minsk, during which leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and EU officials discussed the crisis in Ukraine. All participants of the talks agreed that the situation in Ukraine should be resolved through peaceful means.

Moscow had repeatedly urged for a non-violent approach to the Ukrainian crisis, despite being accused of meddling in the country’s internal affairs.

Earlier this month, a Russian humanitarian convoy delivered about 2,000 tons of aid to the conflict-torn regions of Ukraine.
