MOSCOW, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine’s Kiev ranks among the worst capitals in terms of hotel room cleanliness, a press release by the website hotel.info says.
The survey was based on the opinions of more than six million website users.
Kiev scored 7.71 points out of 10, trailing right behind Brussels and Sao Paulo, which turn out to be even worse when it comes to hotel hygiene.
Notably, in 2011 Kiev topped the list of the most polluted European capitals, according to a statistic research by the British company The Economist Intelligence Unit. It found then that every resident of the city produces 600 kilograms of garbage a year, something hardly compensated for by Kiev’s environmental programs, ranking 23rd out of 30 on an international scale.
In terms of hotel cleanliness, Western European capitals largely showed poor results, with London scoring a lowly 7.52, followed by Oslo with 7.53 points and Amsterdam hitting a paltry 7.58.
However, the worst score was obtained by Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro (7.29), which seems to have put hotel hygiene at the bottom of the agenda as it was preparing for the World Cup 2014.
The hotel.info survey places Japan at the top of the rankings, suggesting Tokyo can boast the cleanest hotel rooms around the world. Poland’s Warsaw, South Korea’s Seoul and Bratislava in Slovakia tied for second respectively.
Hotel.info provides tourists with information on as many as 250,000 hotels around the world. The company is part of the same holding as Germany-based hotel booking portal hotel.de, the corporate website reads.
