MOSCOW, September 2 (RIA Novosti) – Swedish clothing chain H&M will open a pop-up store to collect old garments for recycling September 5-7, the company reports.
"We don’t want clothes to become waste, we want them to become a resource instead," H&M sustainability manager Henrik Lampa said, as cited by Bloomberg. "We want to make new commercial fibers out of this, to make new clothes and textiles."
The showroom will be setup in support of an H&M’s global ecological initiative – Garment Collecting. Green boxes will be installed inside the pavilion for collecting old or unused clothes. Visitors are expected to hand in clothes by any brand and in any condition, except for leather goods. All collected items will be sent for recycling to produce new materials, while the most unprofitable ones will be used to produce energy. Customers bringing their clothes for recycling will be given a 15% discount in H&M stores.
Specially for H&M British design bureau Re:Design has created unique pieces of art that will be installed in the showroom. Beyond that it will host a workshop on creating art-pieces from old and unused clothes. Latest H&M and H&M Home collections will be presented in the showroom as well.
