BERLIN, September 3 (RIA Novosti) – Germany plans to deliver flak jackets and possibly mobile hospitals to Ukraine, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert said Wednesday.
According to Seibert, following a request from Ukraine, Germany suggested sending flak jackets to the crisis-hit country and the suggestion was met “positively.”
“There was also a request to deliver mobile hospitals… and talks are currently underway with Ukraine,” he said.
The Ukrainian government launched a military operation against the pro-independence movement of the country’s eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk, who are willing to break away from Kiev and are refusing to recognize the government, which came to power following the February coup.
The fighting has killed over 2,500 and injured around 6,000 people and triggered a tense humanitarian situation in southeastern Ukraine. Moscow has called for an immediate stop to the fighting, arguing that only dialogue can lead to the resolution of the crisis.
