MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) – US president Obama announced plans to send Air Force units and aircraft to Estonia during a joint press conference with Estonian president Hendrik Ilves held in Tallinn on Wednesday.

“Today I can announce that this initiative will include additional Air Force units, an aircraft for training exercises here in the Nordic Baltic Region. And we agree with our Estonian allies that an ideal location to host and support these exercises would be Amari airbase here in Estonia,” Obama said.

The strengthening of the US military presence in the Baltic countries, including the placement of parts of the Air Force at the naval base in Estonia was one of the main topics on the agenda of Obama’s visit.

“Estonia will not stand alone,” Obama added.

On Tuesday, during a press conference in Oslo, Norway Estonian President Hendrik Ilves told the reporters that the country would like permanent NATO bases to be set up in Estonia. According to Ilves, NATO bases in Estonia would reduce the fear of potential threats from neighboring Russia.
