One of Andrei Stenin's last photos shows a wounded Ukrainian serviceman, which prompted the Ukrainian Interior Ministry to accuse the photojournalist of "being present during torture and killings in Shakhtarsk and assisting in terrorism".

Stenin went missing in eastern Ukraine on August 5. Sources said that there was the possibility that the journalist was being held by the Ukrainian military, but Kiev never officially confirmed the information.

One of Stenin's last pictures, which allegedly gave Anton Herashchenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister, a reason to say in an interview with Baltkom radio on August 12 that security forces had arrested Stenin on "charges of assisting terrorists". However, later Herashchenko claimed he had been misinterpreted.
