MADRID, September 4 (RIA Novosti) –The Spanish government expressed condolences to the family and friends of Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency photojournalist Andrei Stenin who was killed in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
“Spanish government deeply regrets the death of Russian journalist Andrei Stenin,” said the statement, published on the Spanish Government official website on Thursday.
Spanish authorities have voiced their concern with “the growing number of journalists of different nationalities becoming victims in armed conflicts while performing their professional duties” and urged all sides, participating in the armed conflicts and wars, to “respect and protect” journalists.
On Wednesday morning, Rossiya Segodnya Director General Dmitry Kiselev announced that according to information received from the Russian Investigative Committee, the agency’s photojournalist Andrei Stenin who went missing in eastern Ukraine on August 5, died about a month ago just outside Donetsk.
The car, in which Stenin was traveling while on an editorial assignment, was shot at and torched on a highway just outside the city.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, Stenin was killed in a Ukrainian attack on a column of refugees guarded by eastern Ukraine independence supporters.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry demanded that Kiev launch a full investigation into Stenin’s death. Stenin is the fourth Russian journalist killed during the Ukrainian conflict.
