Japanese authorities have recommended some 49,000 residents of the Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures to evacuate due to heavy rains, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported Friday.

TOKYO, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - Japanese authorities have recommended some 49,000 residents of the Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures to evacuate due to heavy rains, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported Friday.

Japan’s meteorological service has warned about the danger of landslides, freshets and squally winds in the southern-central prefectures of Japan’s largest island Honshu, NHK said.

Over 7 inches of precipitation fell over three hours in the town of Ayabe located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, which is above the average monthly rainfall. About 3.5 inches of rainfall per hour was registered in the town of Fukusiyama in the same region with a number of houses and roads flooded, according to NHK.

The meteorological service expects heavy rains to fall on almost all regions of Japan, from the south-west to the north-east.

In late August, downpours caused landslides in the Hiroshima Prefecture, killing 72. Another two persons are still believed missing.
