DONETSK, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Artillery fire can be heard once again on the eastern outskirts of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, locals told RIA Novosti on Sunday.
Shots can be heard in particular around the neighborhood on the eastern outskirts of Mariupol, where clashes between security forces and militias took place earlier. It is not currently clear who is shooting.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said via Facebook that additional Ukrainian forces are gathering at Mariupol, in particular, the first brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk (DPR), Andrei Purgin, told RIA Novosti that the Donetsk and Luhansk militia intend to adhere to the ceasefire despite provocations by Ukrainian law enforcers.
Earlier on Sunday, the self-proclaimed Donetsk (DPR) and Luhansk (LPR) People's Republics reportedly introduced a number of “urgent measures" to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to aid in implementing the protocol agreed upon in Minsk on September 5 by the trilateral contact group. The republics hope for a speedy approval from the OSCE in addition to impartial monitoring of the ceasefire by the organization.
During the meeting concerning the situation in Ukraine in Minsk on Friday, the trilateral contact group agreed to a ceasefire that began at 15:00 GMT the same day.
