MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) – The Paramount Pictures film studio plans to add two sequels to the Terminator franchise, which is starting off next summer with the Terminator: Genisys movie.
The studio has dated Terminator 2 for May 19, 2017, and Terminator 3 for June 29, 2018.
“The two films will be filmed back to back, provided Genisys works,” the Hollywood Reporter writes citing inside sources.
Paramount is partnered with David Ellison’s Skydance Production on the rebooted franchise, which launched in 1984 with James Cameron directing Arnold Schwarzenegger as the iconic cyborg, famous for his “I’ll be back” statement.
Terminator: Genisys, which is the fifth installment in the franchise, will also star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who took a break from his acting career while serving as the 38th Governor of California from 2003 until 2011.
In 2012, a spokeswoman for Annapurna Pictures, which partnered with David Ellison the same year, said that under new copyright rules, North American rights to The Terminator franchise could revert back to creator James Cameron in 2019 – 35 years after the original Terminator movie was released.
