Moscow Celebrates City Day 2014

City Day is always the most anticipated and the brightest holiday of the fall for Moscow. The celebration is defined as a birthday party for the city, its residents, and of course, visitors. Each year the celebrations are accompanied by a diverse and incredibly entertaining program, and attract dozens of visitors. During the City Day numerous carnivals, shows, festivals, trade fairs, contests, exhibitions and music shows featuring the most popular stars take place in Moscow. This year it was held on September 6-7.

The capital's City Day is usually marked by a giant street party on the first weekend of September. This year the stages were set up in central squares, gardens and parks for colorful performances, such as Street Art Festival "Bright People" in Neglinnaya street.

The famous russian clown Slava Polunin hosted the Color carnival in the Bauman's garden. Theater, music, circus, fairs, performances were integrated into the show.

The "Table of the Boulevard" project involved the whole of the Boulevard ring. Each of boulevards was given asubject: Chisto prudny was devoted to children, Nikitsky ― books, Gogolevsky ― art. At Patriarchal ponds there were concerts for classical music.

The International Military Music Festival "Spasskaya Tower" is one of the main events on Moscow City Day. It took place on Moscow's Red Square from August 30th to September 7th 2014. The traditional participants of the Festival are the units of the State Honour Guards and the leading Russian and foreign military music bands.

"Bright people" is a colorful family festival of street art taken place in Moscow Neglinnaya street.

Five grand pianos were set up from Bogoyavlensky Lane to Lubyanskaya Square. Pianists — students, young professionals and masters — played classical piano works all day long.

If you prefer edutainment to entertainment you won’t be bored either. The Street & Art Science show was held in one of Moscow's parks. Visitors were able to see visualizations of scientific anomalies and observe experiments in physics, chemistry and robotics demonstrated at a mobile Science Lab.

The participants of the annual Spasskaya Tower international military tattoo marched through Moscow's streets. The military bands, pillars of military culture, preserve the glorious traditions of Russian military music.
