MOSCOW, September 8 (RIA Novosti) -An alleged alliance of four Mexican cartels may cause a shift in power in the ongoing struggle between the cartels and bring more drug-related violence to the country, Breitbart News Network reported on Monday.
“No good can come of this alliance, for either the Gulf or Sinaloa cartels or the levels of drug-related violence near our southwest border,” said the border security expert and a former US Air Force officer Sylvia Longmire as quoted by the Breitbart News Network.
According to the local media, the leaders of the Zetas, the Carrillo Fuentes, the Beltran Leyva and the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion have recently discussed a possible alliance. All these cartels, with the exception of the Zetas, have been in decline in recent years and Mexican authorities have been focusing on investigating the activities of the Gulf Cartel.
The ongoing conflict between the rival cartels, and between the criminals and the Mexican government forces has claimed more than 120,000 lives since its beginning in December 2006, when then-President Felipe Calderon decided to militarize the struggle against the drug trade.
