A database containing 4.5 million passwords and usernames from the popular Russian email service Mail.ru became available on the Internet, a Russian IT-blog reported earlier on Monday.
The user, nicknamed Libert, said that the alleged database has been uploaded to the Bitcoin Security online forum and was freely available.
"The database contains 4.6 million logs. Its validity has not been verified yet, however, taking into consideration the same situation [occurred] with Yandex user's accounts, this leak might as well be a continuation of the same story," - Libert claims, as cited by Habrahabr.
On September 7, an account database of Russia's biggest search engine, Yandex, was also been leaked. It contained more than 1.26 million logs. Yandex representatives have analyzed the data and concluded that it was not a hacker's attack, but simply a collection of compromised account information that had been collected over a long period of time.
