WARSAW, September 9, (RIA Novosti) – Poland’s President Bronisław Komorowski told local TVN24 BiS TV channel, that supplies of weapons to Ukraine were not discussed during the NATO summit.
“There was no discussing weapons supply to Ukraine at the NATO summit. Ukraine can reckon on the political support. [Ukraine] can count on help, but it cannot involve delivery of [military] equipment, which causes death,” Komorowski said late on Monday.
Polish leader also added that the summit was dedicated to finding ways to “save Ukraine” and the alliance made it clear that it cannot promise Ukraine more than it can give.
On September 7, Yuri Lutsenko, senior aide to the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, claimed that the United States, France, Italy, Poland and Norway had agreed to supply modern armaments to Ukraine at the September 4-5 NATO summit in Wales.
Reuters disproved the information by citing an anonymous high-profile US official. Italy, Norway and Poland have also denied the existence of any arrangements to supply weapons to Ukraine. France declined to comment on the issue, Reuters reported.
On September 8, Poroshenko also stated that the agreements with a number of NATO countries have been reached ensuring direct supplies of modern weaponry.
