TBILISI, September 10 (RIA Novosti) - Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili hopes that the expansion of military cooperation between Georgia and NATO will not have a negative effect on the Georgian-Russian relations, the president said in an interview to Rustavi 2 Broadcasting Company.

"I hope that there will be no changes, since all of our intentions… are defensive, and we do not opt for the aggressive policy," Margvelashvili said.

At the same time, Margvelashvili noted that Georgia has the prospect of becoming a stable European country, and in this case it would be beneficial for Russia.

At the NATO summit in early September, Georgia has received the status of a special partner and moved to a new expanded format of military cooperation with the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

In late June, Georgia, together with Ukraine and Moldova, signed the Association Agreement with the European Union. A large part of the agreement, including on a deep and comprehensive free trade area, has now entered into force.
