MOSCOW, September 10 (RIA Novosti) –Russia’s Minister of Economic Development Alexey Ulyukaev, the European Commissioner for Trade Karel de Guсht and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin will have a trilateral meeting in Brussels to discuss the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development press service reported Wednesday.
“The participants will discuss the possibility of changes to be made in the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in order to minimize the earlier identified risks for the Russian Federation from the agreement implementation,” the statement says.
The three parties already met in July and agreed that the liberalization of trade under the Association Agreement will modify trade and investment conditions in the Ukrainian market, thus creating potential economic risks between Russia and Ukraine, including for economic operators.
To create more favorable conditions for trade and economic relations, the participants agreed to launch a consultation mechanism, focusing on technical regulations, standards, customs administration, and other relevant clauses of the agreement.
The political provisions of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union were signed back in March, after ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovitch was ousted and the new interim government came to power.
The economic part of the agreement was signed by current Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in June.
