MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) – The United Nation’s meteorological agency has issued another video in which it warns of floods in Florida, a mega-drought in Arizona and high temperatures in Chicago that could possibly happen just 36 years from now.
“[Hurricane] Kyle is about 400 miles offshore. Tides are running about a foot above where they normally would be, and they are expected to go higher. A storm over 400 miles offshore would never have been a problem many decades ago, but now that we have a rise in sea-level even a storm as far as 400 miles offshore can still cause big problems like you see,” according to the video.
The video also cast doubt on whether the “deadly Chicago temperatures ranging from 96 to 101 degrees will ever end following a brutal summer of record temperatures,” and forecasts a mega-drought to be experienced by Arizona in the future.
According to the World Meteorological organization (WMO), the scenarios are based on “the most up-to-date climate science” and show a compelling picture of what weather forecasts could look like in just 36 years if the world fails to take action against climate change.
WMO launched its series of «weather forecasts from the future» on September 1 to raise awareness before this year’s UN Climate Summit, which is set to take place on September 23.
A total of 14 forecasts from different countries have been planned for release. The reports are presented by real-life television weather forecasters from around the world. The first video, set in Brazil, warned of heavy rain, floods and landslides in southern parts of the country and months of drought in the north.
