MOSCOW, September 15 (RIA Novosti) – Nearly two-thirds of likely voters in key US House and Senate races, disapprove of how US President Barack Obama has dealt with immigration and almost 60 percent disapprove of the president’s handling the economy, Politico’s poll results revealed on Monday.
“Immigration politics have been upended by the surge of unaccompanied migrant children at the Texas border this summer - a crisis that attracted nationwide attention and focused the immigration debate on the issue of border security,” Politico said by way of explanation for the low approval rates (35 percent) on immigration.
In spite of news of US economic growth, many voters remain displeased with the current state of affairs over the economy. “Despite continued signs of a halting but persistent national comeback, midterm voters remain frustrated and unhappy … Many appear to blame President Barack Obama: 57 percent of these voters disapprove of his economic leadership,” the magazine stated.
As for the overall approval of Congressional Republicans and Democrats, the rates are similarly low. Seventy-three percent of likely voters disapprove of the Republicans and 65 percent - of the Democrats.
The approval rate of Obamacare, signed in 2010 to provide millions of uninsured US citizens with health insurance, is only 17 percent. Thirty-eight percent of the voters said the law should be kept, but modified and 44 percent voted for repealing the law.
