ADDIS ABABA, September 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Ethiopia share common principles when it comes to international relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a meeting with the Ethiopian Prime Minister on Tuesday.
"Ethiopia and Russia follow the same principles in international relations. We appreciate this solidarity, which, in my opinion, is for the benefit of all reasonable countries," Lavrov said.
The ministers stressed their commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and underlined the importance of avoiding unilateral use of force, read a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website.
According to Lavrov, the countries reached "a number of positive results" during a meeting of the Russian-Ethiopian Intergovernmental Commission in July. Russia wishes to "develop the previously established connections" with Ethiopia, he said.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister praised the relations between the two countries as well.
"We appreciate our relationship with Russia, which for us is a strategic partner. We have great relations. The contact with our Russian partners is of major importance, especially with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom we met at the G20 summit in South Africa," Desalegn said.
