MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) – In a news broadcast, the CNN television channel in a news report Thursday evening broadcast a graphic showing that Scotland has given the independence referendum 110 percent.

According to the graphic, 58 percent of Scots said "yes," and 52 percent voted "no," which adds up to 110 percent of Scotland's populace.

At 10 a.m. local time (9:00 GMT), referendum polls closed at 5,579 voting stations in 32 councils across Scotland, with official results expected to be announced between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. local time on Friday. First ballots have already come in, they are being processed.

Each of the 32 councils will report local results to Chief Counting Officer Mary Pitcaithly at the Royal Highland Center at Ingliston near Edinburgh, although first results are expected to come in tonight, with the biggest bulk of running totals appearing between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.

A final poll by YouGov company showed that 54 percent of the voters chose for Scotland to stay as part of the United Kingdom.

If the majority of Scots vote for independence, then on March 24, 2016 Scotland will secede from the United Kingdom.
