MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s plea for lethal help at a US Congress meeting on Thursday was not answered by his US counterpart, despite the Ukrainian leader’s claim that the future of a “free world” was at stake.
After the meeting with Poroshenko in Washington, Barack Obama promised $46 million as new security assistance to Ukraine. He made no mention of any weapons deliveries, despite repeated requests from Poroshenko.
Following the talks, the Ukrainian president told journalists he was pleased with the prospect of US help.
Washington said earlier it would allocate $53 million in aid to Ukraine, with $46 million helping strengthen Ukraine’s security and $7 million meant for humanitarian aid, according to Reuters.
