MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) – Part of Russia’s Rostec state corporation, the Kalashnikov weapon maker, which has been targeted by Western sanctions will be forced to revise its export strategy following the measures, Rostec’s press service said Friday.
"Sanctions have certainly had an impact on the strategy of the entire Kalashnikov group. It will take some measures to readjust it," the press service told journalists without specifying any details.
Earlier, a designer of Kalashnikov’s Izhevsk Mechanical Plant told reporters that the plant had not experienced problems due to the imposition of sanctions.
On September 12 the European Union barred three major defense companies (Oboronprom, United Aircraft Corporation and Uralvagonzavod) from seeking finance on European capital markets and banned sales of dual-technology equipment to nine Russian defense companies, including the Kalashnikov Concern and Almaz-Antey.
The Kalashnikov Concern, formerly known as Izhevsk Machine Building Plant, is a large manufacturer of weapons and vehicles, founded in 1807 under a decree of Tsar Alexander the First. It manufactures the famous Kalashnikov assault rifles, missiles and guided shells and other types of weaponry.
