TBILISI, September 21 (RIA Novosti) – All the existing bank accounts of Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili have been arrested in the country, Saakashvili's lawyer, Otar Kakhidze said.
"With the blessing of Mr. Bidzina [Bidzina Ivanishvili, former Georgian Prime Minister, the founder of the ruling coalition] the bank accounts of Mikheil Saakashvili were arrested, however, the prosecutor's office was too lazy to find out what bank the ex-president used and demanded to arrest his accounts in all banks," Kakhidze wrote on his Facebook webpage Saturday.
There are several charges against Saakashvili in Georgia.
Earlier on Friday, the court impounded the property of the former president and his family members in Georgia.
Saakashvili left the country soon after the inauguration of Georgia's new president in November 2013 and since then has not returned home. The ex-president, who lives in the United States, claims that his and his supporters' prosecution in Georgia is politically motivated.
