He 'Ain't Afraid of No Ghosts': Bill Murray Celebrates 64th Birthday

Famous American actor and comedian William James "Bill" Murray was born September 21, 1950. Bill Murray is well-known for the memorable roles in "Ghostbusters" (1984), "Groundhog Day" (1993), "The Life Aquatic" (2004).

Murray's first starring role was with the Canadian comedy film Meatballs (1979), directed by Ivan Reitman - the same man who later directed and produced Ghostbusters.

Ghostbusters (1984), an American supernatural comedy film, starring Bill Murray (in a role originally written for James Belushi), Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The movie was the highest-grossing film of that year.

Ghostbusters (1989) II is a sequel to the 1984 movie about the adventures of a team of parapsychologists dealing with paranormal threats. Despite raking in high box office earnings, it was not as successful as the original.

Groundhog Day (1993), a fantasy comedy film about a TV weatherman (Murray) who, after getting caught in a time loop, is forced to re-examine his life and priorities.

In 1975 Murray received his first television role as a cast member of the ABC variety show Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. After the show was cancelled, lasting only one season, he later joined the cast of NBC's Saturday Night Live.

Lost in Translation (2003), a story of a chance meeting between an aging actor (Murray) and a college graduate (Scarlett Johansson), directed by Sofia Coppola, became a major critical success and was nominated for four Academy Awards. Both Murray and Johansson received a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Leading Role respectively.
