DONETSK, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - The forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) have not shelled the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, a representative for DPR told RIA Novosti Sunday.
"No one of our men has shelled Mariupol. This is another [case of] misinformation by the Ukrainian propaganda," an anonymous representative said.
Earlier on the day, the local authorities claimed the outskirts of Mariupol have been shelled by the pro-independence forces.
The Ukrainian government launched a so-called "anti-terror" operation against the supporters of southeastern Ukraine's independence from Kiev back in April. At the meeting of a Contact Group on the Ukrainian crisis, held on September 5 in the Belarusian capital, the sides reached a ceasefire agreement, which entered into force the same day. According to international observers, the ceasefire is mostly adhered, despite the Ukrainian troops and the pro-independence fighters exchanging the accusations of violating the deal.
