MOSCOW, September 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova has retained the second place in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Road to Singapore singles rankings, according to its website Monday.
Serbian player Ana Ivanovic’s recent win in Tokyo has propelled her up to fifth in the rankings. The Serb defeated Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to win the Pan Pacific Open. Wozniacki reached the final, but was not able to raise her position from ninth.
American Serena Williams still takes the lead in the rankings. Another Russian player, Ekaterina Makarova, has dropped down to No.12 from No.11.
