First Russia's Formula 1 has opened in Sochi on Saturday, September 20. The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Aleksander Tkachev and Russian Gran Prix consultant Richard Cregan.

The opening ceremony was attended by Governor of Krasnodar Territory Aleksander Tkachev and international consultant for Russian Gran Prix Richard Cregan.
Famous Russian racer Vitaly Petrov said that the Sochi race track is quite difficult and has several unique turns.
According to Governor of Krasnodar Territory Aleksander Tkachev, in terms of design, architecture, beauty and technology the race track has no analogues in the world.
Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited the Sochi race track and met with racers and the facility employees. He surveyed the Race control center that monitors the entire race track via cameras. he also checked out one of the race cars.

"We've been waiting for more than five years and the time has finally come," Governor of Krasnodar Territory Aleksander Tkachev said during his speech at the opening ceremony. "Five years ago we got the first opportunity to build a unique Formula 1 race track here in Sochi. We have been dreaming for several generations to build a F1 track. The Sochi Olympics was the chief factor that prompted us to commence this undertaking, and we must continue to develop our post-Olympic legacy. We want to build facilities that will serve us for decades to come."
The first ever Formula 1 race in Russia is scheduled to take place on October 12, 2014 in Sochi.
