MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Fayed Mustafa, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia, has confirmed to RIA Novosti that the next round of peace talks between the Palestinian Autonomy and Israel will be held late October.
"Yes, we confirm that a round of indirect talks between Palestine and Israel ended yesterday in Cairo. There was an agreement to resume talks in the second half of October," the ambassador said Wednesday.
The ambassador also stressed the importance of Palestinian president speaking at the UN General assembly on September 26.
"He will speak about our steps for solving the conflict between Israel and Palestine. I think our president is making a lot of efforts in New York now, and he is meeting with [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov today," the ambassador said.
"He [the president] will explain what our next steps will be, how we view the conflict, what the international community should do to solve the conflict," Mustafa said.
The 69th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 69) convened at the UN Headquarters on September 16, the general debate opened on September 23.
UNGA 69 is expected to bring together about 90 heads of state, 50 prime ministers and deputy prime ministers and 40 foreign affairs ministers.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, whose speech is scheduled for September 27, heads the Russian delegation.
