WASHINGTON, September 25 (RIA Novosti) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry held a bilateral meeting, discussing the importance of the Ukraine ceasefire agreement, according to the US State Department.
“In a 40 minute meeting this evening, Secretary Kerry and Foreign Minister Lavrov discussed Ukraine and the importance of full and prompt implementation of all aspects of the 12 point Minsk ceasefire agreement,” a statement released by the US State Department late Wednesday said.
“They also discussed the fight against ISIL [or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as the Islamic State, or IS, and the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria, or ISIS], and our respective approaches to Iraq and Syria,” the statement added.
According to the statement, Lavrov and Kerry “also compared notes on the P5+1 talks with Iran.”
The Minsk agreement was signed on September 5 by the Contact Group on Ukraine. It stipulated a ceasefire between Kiev forces and independence fighters in Ukraine’s southeastern regions, an “all-for-all” prisoner exchange and the opening of humanitarian corridors.
