MOSCOW, September 25 (RIA Novosti) – Marlene Pinnock, beaten by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer Daniel Andrew in an incident caught on video, is to receive $1.5 million in compensation, The Associated Press (AP) reported Thursday.
A session on the incident's settlement held in Los Angeles on Wednesday also reportedly led to the female offender's resignation from law enforcement.
AP said the settlement had been confirmed by CHP commissioner Joe Farrow in an emailed statement.
"When this incident occurred, I promised that I would look into it and vowed a swift resolution. Today, we have worked constructively to reach a settlement agreement that is satisfactory to all parties involved," Farrow was quoted as saying by the agency.
Andrew, though, can still face legal persecution. The results of the investigation were handed over to Los Angeles County prosecutors in August.
Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Pinnock, 51, was walking barefoot on the side of a freeway in California when Officer Andrew pulled her out while traveling in the opposite direction, triggering an active physical resistance by Pinnock. The video, uploaded to YouTube in July, shows Andrew punching the woman in the head with a clenched fist.
