MOSCOW, September 27 (RIA Novosti) - Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former US president, Bill Clinton, has given birth to her first child, Agence Presse-France (AFP) reported Saturday.
"Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky," Chelsea Clinton wrote via Facebook referring to her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, an investment banker.
The former first daughter also made the announcement via Twitter according to AFP. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton along with former US president Bill Clinton later retweeted the news of their first grandchild.
The new mother announced her pregnancy in April 2014 during a New York City event on empowering women and later left her position as NBC special correspondent in August to focus on the pregnancy.
"I would like to have a happy wife, and she won't be unless she's a grandmother... It's something she wants more than she wanted to be president," former US president Clinton previously told reporters in 2011 in Switzerland according to Reuters.
Hillary Clinton is expected to launch a second bid to become the first female president of the United States by contesting the 2016 Democrat nomination. The new grandmother has said she would not make a decision on whether to launch her own presidential campaign until after her only daughter had given birth.
Former president Clinton served as the United States' 42nd president from January 1993 to January 2001.
